Continuing Flood Works is Good News for Market Town

19 May 2012

DAWN was thrilled to hear last week that the funding needed to help push forward Morpeth's food defence scheme for a further 12 months has been secured.

DAWN Advice and the Citizens Advice Bureaux have seen first-hand the shattering effects which flooding can, and has, had on so many of the town's residents. In 2008 we saw over a month's worth of rain fall in just 24 hours - devastating more than 900 homes and causing over £40million worth of damage.

Although the extra funding will not see the project through to the very end it is a positive sign that planning works will continue. This defence project is vital to help protect many Morpeth families and businesses from having to rebuild their lives once again so this is extremely welcome news.
